You may have seen the brand LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose mentioned whilst shopping for Viscose fabrics. Here are a few of the reasons why we love their fibres:
Responsible Sourcing
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are made from wood, a natural and renewable raw material carefully sourced from responsibly managed forests. The wood taken from nature is purposefully balanced with forest growth rates, to ensure the continued availability of this valuable resource.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are USDA Certified Biobased Products and contain 100% USDA Certified Biobased Content.
Responsible Production
For the production of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres, wood is used for its high cellulose content. The quality of the wood is of no significance. Indeed, also timber from thinning or damaged wood can be used. Therefore, Lenzing is no rival for other industries requiring high-quality wood.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are made with at least 50% less carbon emissions and water consumption compared to generic viscose*
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are certified with the widely recognized EU Ecolabel for textile products (license no. AT/016/001). This label is awarded to products that meet high environmental standards. Key criteria for evaluation include production processes limiting the usage of substances harmful to human health or the environment, and minimising key environmental impacts.
End of life consideration
While garments are not intended for disposal via biodegradation or decomposition, recycling potential and other end-of-life considerations are important factors when designing garments.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres^ are certified for biodegradability and compostability. In combination with compatible blending partners, dyes and finishes, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres contribute to the biodegradability of textile products.
In detail, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are certified biodegradable in soil, freshwater and marine environments. Additionally, they are certified for compostability under home and industrial conditions. Since LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres can fully return to nature, they offer a viable alternative to synthetic fibres that can pose a risk of releasing microplastics into the environment when incorrectly disposed.
