What is TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers?
TENCEL™ is a trademark of Lenzing AG. Lenzing was the first cellulosic fiber producer to set concrete science-based targets aiming for a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
TENCEL™ Lyocell Production
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are naturally soft and smooth to the touch. These fibres are made from wood, a natural and renewable raw material carefully sourced from responsibly managed forests.
The wood taken from nature is purposefully balanced with forest growth rates, to ensure the continued availability of this valuable resource.
The responsible production of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers uses at least 50% less water and emits at least 50% less greenhouse gas (GHG) compared to generic lyocell fibers, according to Higg MSIˆ, thereby saving precious resources for future generations.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are produced in a closed loop process which recovers 99.8% of the solvent - resulting in close-to-zero wastage.
While garments are not intended for disposal via biodegradation or decomposition, recycling potential and other end-of-life considerations are important factors when designing garments.
TENCEL™ Lyocell* fibers are certified for biodegradability and compostability. In combination with compatible blending partners, dyes and finishes, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers contribute to the biodegradability of textile products.
In detail, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are certified biodegradable in soil, freshwater and marine environments. Additionally, they are certified for compostability under home and industrial conditions. Since TENCEL™ fibers can fully return to nature, they offer a viable alternative to synthetic fibers that can pose a risk of releasing microplastics into the environment when incorrectly disposed.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are naturally soft and smooth to the touch.
The structure of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers allows the absorption and release of moisture. In the final textile product, these effective moisture controlling properties support a drier microclimate on the skin, increasing the wearer's thermal comfort.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers absorb sweat efficiently, resulting in reduced moisture on the fiber surface. This creates a less favorable environment for the growth of odor-causing bacteria.
