The Workwear Book from Merchant & Mills
In genderless sizing from XS-XXXL we illustrate the eternal relevance and versatility of traditional workwear shapes and detailing. These simple everyday garments are clothes not fashion, living outside the fast and careless, trend-led landscape.
We have explored the concept and designs within the book through conversations with makers of varying disciplines, from weaving to wood turning. These makers model the patterns and tell us a little of their story and their craft.
We have also created an accompanying set of woven patch labels to sew into your workwear makes which can be found here.
WORKWEAR presents five new complete patterns, printed full size:
- A chore jacket (choose to make with a zip or button closure)
- A classic shirt (choose to make a shirt or shirt dress with a shirt or grandad collar)
- A pair of trousers (choose to make trousers or shorts)
- A classic blazer (choose to make lined, unlined or with bound seams)
- A Japanese-inspired mail bag
In each chapter we will talk through the cloth used and offer tips and advice on handling and finishing. This is not a beginner’s book but nor is it advanced. It’s a handbook of staple makes and satisfying techniques, sure to become a well-thumbed companion to any maker’s handmade wardrobe. Accompanying sew in label sets specific to the makes in the book, can be found here!
