TENCEL™ FIBRES
TENCEL™ is trademarked
Created by the Austrian company Lenzing, TENCEL™ fibres are produced by environmentally responsible processes.
Closed loop production
Lenzing use a closed loop production process to produce TENCEL™ fibres from wood pulp. The pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibres with high resource efficiency and a low ecological impact (using organic solvents, and energy from renewable sources). The "solvent-spinning process recycles process water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%." [1.]
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are derived from sustainable renewable wood sources, and TENCEL™ Modal fibres are mainly from raw material beech wood sourced from sustainable wood sources in Austria and its neighbouring countries. Amongst various technologies, Lenzing use groundbreaking technology REFIBRA™, which upcycles cotton scraps from garment production. These scraps are dissolved into cotton pulp so they can be added to the wood pulp to create virgin TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres.
Technologies such as Eco Color and Eco Soft are implemented in the process, offering ecological advantages, and using sources sparingly, making the fibre an environmentally responsible choice.
Products that revert back to nature
"Derived from nature, all TENCEL™ standard Lyocell and Modal fiber types have been certified by the Belgian certification company Vinçotte as biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions[...]"[2a.] Thus contributing to a circular economy.
Leading in sustainability
"By reducing carbon emissions and using renewable energy during production, TENCEL™ goes beyond carbon offsetting to lower its carbon footprint, offering carbon-zero products certified as CarbonNeutral®products by Natural Capital Partners." [3.]
In particular, TENCEL™ Modal fibres have a significant lower environmental impact in their entire lifecycle and is internationally recognised by the EU Ecolabel. [2b.]
Lenzing is the fibre industry’s leader in sustainability. [4a.] For over 80 years [5.], using wood as their natural resource, they pioneer innovative technologies to "positively impact people’s lives and to preserve a world worth living in." [4b.]
With encouraging innovative solutions, Lenzing is definitely a company to pay attention to!
