The Lab coat sewing pattern is a workwear-inspired coat with a mid-length style. Features a hidden button front, a clean round neck and large patch pockets for added functionality.
The Lab coat is a straight, wide coat with lots of ease and it can easily be shortened or lengthened.
Changing up the fabric choices can give you a multitude of options! A heavyweight fabric can give it the lab coat effect, whereas a softer lightweight fabric will look more like a cardigan.

For a dress-like version choose a light to midweight fabric such as linen, denim, cotton twill, wool, lightweight canvas. Perhaps skip the hidden button front and choose visible buttons and no lower pockets.
Or if you’re looking for an even softer variant, more like a cardigan or kaftan, choose a lightweight fabric, visible buttons, and no pockets.
